About Indiana Authors Awards

Great books are written in Indiana and by Hoosiers.

We believe that meeting an author can spark or renew a lifelong love of literature and reading.

As envisioned by Eugene and Marilyn Glick, the Indiana Authors Awards embrace the important idea that great writers come from anywhere and that sometimes what’s needed is that first flash of inspiration.

These beliefs guide the Indiana Authors Awards, which encompass not just a set of prizes given biennially, but also a dynamic set of programs and communications initiatives.

The Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Awards honor the best books written by Indiana authors.

Awarded every two years, they celebrate Indiana writers, shine a light on the Hoosier state’s literary community, and deepen connections between Indiana writers and readers. They were established in 2009 as a vision of Eugene and Marilyn Glick and are powered by Indiana Humanities.

Vision for the Indiana Authors Awards

Indiana Humanities became home to the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Awards in 2019. In support of the legacy of the Indiana Authors Awards, we aim to:

Fully honor the breadth of writing in Indiana with diverse award categories, from fiction and nonfiction, to graphic novels and comics, to poetry and drama, to books for young readers, teens, and adults.
Support opportunities for Hoosiers, especially young readers and writers, to meet and interact with authors through speaker programs and hone their skills with writing workshops.
Increase awareness and excitement among Hoosier readers with every new round of honorees. Every library and independent bookstore in the state will receive posters, bookmarks, and other materials to create displays and programming around selected books.
Curate monthly book review columns written by Indiana authors, running in papers around the state and online, to help readers find their next great Hoosier read.
Be enthusiastic ambassadors for Indiana books, authors, and the literary community. The Indiana Authors Awards will leverage Indiana Humanities’ diverse statewide network of partners to build buzz, promote winning authors, and shine a spotlight on the fact that Indiana is a great place to live and work if you care about the written word.
