Apart from his time at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Bob Johnson has spent most of his life in Indiana. He was born in Middlebury, Indiana, taught school in Elkhart County, and worked in commercial television in South Bend. His short story collection, The Continental Divide, was published in 2025 by Cornerstone Press. It was long-listed for the PEN/Bingham Awards, named a finalist for the Society of Midland Authors Award and the NEIA Awards, and was included in Literary Hub’s 100 Notable Small Press Books. The collection was also reviewed by Stuart Dybek in The New York Times. Johnson’s work has appeared in The Common, The Hudson Review, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, Barcelona Review, and many other literary journals. He holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop.
