Elisabeth Hegmann is a speculative fiction writer who introduces her readers to characters who resonate deeply with their most outrageous vulnerabilities and their most transcendent yearnings, and who come to be like family with whom they want to go on a long journey together. She grew up in a family of classically trained musicians, and her work has always been informed richly and powerfully by music. She has a B.A. in creative writing from IU and an MFA in fiction from NCSU. Her work has been published in a variety of journals, produced on regional stages, and won several awards. Her book of linked short stories, Modus Perfectus, was published by Paper Angel Press in 2023. She’s currently working on a series of novels, The Last-Lorn Ship on the Brimful Puddle. In 2024, she was one of 30 creatives from around the state accepted into Indiana Arts Commission’s On-Ramp Creative Entrepreneur Accelerator program, in connection with which she will be carrying out a year-long fellowship project aimed towards reader and community engagement. She lives in her hometown of North Vernon, Indiana, where she works diligently to be worthy of the love of her dog, and teaches every imaginable kind of writing to tolerant college students. She also teaches creative writing classes at Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness & Art in Vernon, IN.
