Jeremy Hartnett is a professor of classics at Wabash College. His books, The Remarkable Life, Death, and Afterlife of an Ordinary Roman: A Social History and The Roman Street: Urban Life and Society in Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Rome, were both published by Cambridge University Press. Hartnett initially came to Indiana for college and then, after grad school at the University of Michigan, returned to his alma mater as a professor of classics in 2004.

A specialist in Roman archaeology and social history, he studies sites in Italy including Pompeii, Herculaneum, Ostia, and Rome. Hartnett is particularly drawn to everyday life in Roman cities and has spoken on these topics at the Getty Villa in Malibu, the Aspen Institute, the Boston Museum of Science, and elsewhere.
