2024 Fiction Shortlist: Booth
The Booth’s were a famous family of actors in Civil War America. John Wilkes Booth became the most famous of them, but all were amazing, and in much better ways. In Karen Joy Fowler’s novel, BOOTH, is less the story of John and more a meditation about what it might have been like to be his mother, his father, his brother or sister, to love him dearly, and to see him become the most hated man in America.
