Robyn Ryle is the author of Sex of the Midwest, which received a starred review from Kirkus Reviews and was named an NPR “Book We Love” in 2025. She has also written the award-winning nonfiction books She/He/They/Me and Throw Like a Girl, Cheer Like a Boy, as well as the young adult novel Fair Game. Her essays and stories have appeared in CNN, Newsweek, Tin House, and Belt Magazine, among other publications. When she’s not writing, she paints birds and teaches sociology and gender studies to college students.

Originally from Kentucky, Ryle has now lived most of her life in Indiana. She earned both her master’s degree and PhD from Indiana University Bloomington. She lives in Madison, Indiana, in a 200-year-old house with her husband and two peculiar cats. She also writes the Substack newsletter You Think Too Much.
