Next Chapter for the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Awards

Marianne Glick is the Chair of the Glick Family Foundation and the President and Owner of GlickArt. An Indianapolis native, she has a deep connection to the community and to philanthropy in the city. Marianne’s personal mission is to ignite, inspire and direct energy for positive action. Below, she reflects on her parents’ vision for the Indiana Authors Awards, and shares what’s next for the Awards program in 2019 and beyond:

My parents had the dream of recognizing the contributions of Indiana authors in order to inspire more Hoosiers to read, write and discuss outstanding literature. Thanks to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation, their dream became a reality with the establishment of the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Awards. My family is truly grateful for the Library Foundation’s leadership and commitment to Gene and Marilyn’s vision.

Like the start of a great novel, the first chapter of the Indiana Authors Awards has captured the imagination of many. Over the past decade, hundreds of authors have been recognized through the nomination and award selection process and thousands of Hoosiers have engaged with Indiana authors and their works through programs such as Meet an Author, Be an Author and Novel Conversations.

The first chapter of the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Awards has been compelling enough that we are now ready to write the second. As we look forward to the next decade, we hope the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Awards programming can do even more to inspire Hoosiers – especially children — to read and write, help springboard emerging authors’ careers, create additional opportunities for people to discuss outstanding Indiana literature and further promote Indiana as a tremendous place to be a writer and reader.

Working with The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation team, we have determined the best way to accomplish the expanded goals of the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Awards is for a statewide organization to lead future programming. During 2019 we will take some time to develop creative new ideas that will more fully engage people throughout Indiana. While this means awards won’t be given in 2019, we are confident the next chapter of the Indiana Authors Award will be worth the wait.
